For higher education institutions, nothing is more important than student safety. Fully recognizing and understanding this need, Calvin University sought to update campus security through new access control card systems in every building, hiring Feyen Zylstra to carry out the installation.

Completed in three phases over the course of three summers, FZ installed the new system in dozens of buildings, careful not to interrupt summer activities on campus. The team also used uncommon installation techniques in order to minimize the visual impact on the campus’ unique architecture. Altogether, the system was installed on over 300 doors and has over 5,000 active access card users.

Calvin’s original security system was outdated and didn’t have coverage across the campus. The new access control card system allows Calvin’s campus to be more safe and secure. The system is customizable to meet their needs and gives them more control — they can easily manage and track who has access to each building. As students, faculty, and staff transition on and off campus each semester, Calvin is able to activate and deactivate cards quickly and simply, minimizing security risks.
