180MW Greenfield Data Center
Feyen Zylstra was tasked with providing the electrical construction for a greenfield 180MW data center located in Michigan. This project was a significant undertaking, split into multiple phases to ensure efficient and timely completion.
The project encompassed several key phases. Initially, temporary power and lighting solutions were established to facilitate construction activities. Following this, the entire site electrical infrastructure was developed, including pathways and connections. An electrical yard and building were constructed to house critical electrical components. Finally, the electrical work for the data center itself and associated office spaces was completed. Heavy BIM (Building Information Modeling) coordination was employed to design a layout that allowed the team to identify timelines and long lead items, assess potential cost impacts and constructability issues, and address any missing drawing information.
The project presented several challenges. Managing the storage and staging of large-scale equipment required meticulous planning and coordination. The demanding project schedule necessitated efficient workflows and timely execution of tasks. To streamline the construction process and improve efficiency, prefabricated assemblies were utilized for both overhead and underground installations.
