Horse Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Horse Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant serves over half of the residents and businesses in Aiken County, SC. The facility removes contaminants from sewage, industrial wastewater, and municipal wastewater so that the remaining liquid can be returned safely back into the environment.
When the outdated plant needed a major overhaul upgrade, they relied on FZ to provide the new electrical system. Our team was tasked with the demolition and renovation of the facility’s electrical system that had been in constant use since 1980. An important component of our work was installing the system while keeping the plant fully operational with minimal downtime or impacts.
Our scope of work included the installation of (9) 15kv substations, medium voltage switches, and MCC sections in all the pump system control houses. Our team also provided new control panels for the entire site as well as low voltage systems for the pumps.
With the large task of keeping Aiken County’s drinking water clean, FZ also held the largest risk in ensuring the electrical grid system would remain fully functional throughout the process with zero impacts on the community. The upgrade has increased the facility’s capacity from 20 million gallons per day to 26 million galls per day. It’s also been instrumental in attracting and retaining new companies and industries to Aiken County.
Feyen Zylstra’s work contributed to the project being completed 134 days ahead of the anticipated construction schedule and roughly $1,000,000 under budget.
