As the leading supplier of linear actuators and lifting columns, J-Star Motion required a new production facility to keep up with ever-growing demand. Feyen Zylstra provided the complete electrical package for the construction of a 365,000 square foot factory and warehouse. The electrical package included the lighting, power, underground, fire alarm, machine hook-ups, and access control. The facility included a 15,000-foot two-story office structure and 280,000-foot manufacturing plant floor, complete with an engineering office mezzanine, shipping/receiving offices, and employee break facilities.

Owing to the facility hosting its own private well, septic systems, and underground fire water storage tank, there was a large amount of underground work needed. Confronted by over 35,000 linear feet of underground PVC, our team got creative and tested out multiple ways of streamlining the underground work. In the end, we established an innovative way of completing the underground in a fraction of the time it would normally take using the traditional method. We worked closely with the concrete contractor to ensure that our schedules aligned throughout the underground work.

Although not formally contracted as a Design Build partner, FZ stepped into a consultant role throughout the project providing design feedback, alternatives, and assistance throughout every project phase. Our team worked closely with the project owner, as well as other trade partners to ensure the design and build aligned with the owner’s intent.

As a China-owned company, all the production equipment was to be installed and wired by J-Star’s in-house engineers and technicians. Because their team was not able to travel in from China, FZ was hired to install and wire all of the production equipment and machinery for the factory. This included equipment for a Paint Line, Wash Line, Powder Coat Line, Tube Mill, and more.
