When it comes to largescale industrial manufacturing facilities, Feyen Zylstra is armed with years of experience and lessons learned on past projects. One such project was for a manufacturing customer located in Whitehall, MI. As a trusted project partner, our team provided design and electrical solutions for the construction of their new 198,000 square foot facility.

Feyen Zylstra’s work for this project included installing 10 new substations and increasing the facility's electrical service to 21 megawatts, 26,000 amps at 480 volts, and a voltage conversion of 12,470V. All this took place over the course of three utility shutdowns where our crew ramped up to over 35 electricians on site. In terms of scale, over 2 miles of primary cable and over 21 miles of feeder cable were installed on this project.

Our strength on large projects lies in our ability to offer design solutions before and throughout construction. Our engineering team accomplished this by relying on regular coordination meetings with the owner and design teams. In integrating owner equipment models and keeping open communication between the M&P teams, they provided an efficient design that maximizes the customer’s space for current and future needs.

Reaching a successful completion is always a goal for a project, but adding unexpected value is where FZ shines. In this instance, our team helped develop and implement unique systems for the manufacturing facility. These included special process equipment, N+1 requirements, primary switches and wiring, a 7.5 MVA transformer, utility coordination, and underground configuration.
