We are excited to announce that Joel VanDuyn, Electrical Service Technician at Feyen Zylstra (FZ), has been named a 2026 Craft Professional of the Year (CPOY) finalist by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Western Michigan Chapter.
ABC, a national construction trade association, annually recognizes outstanding craft professionals who exemplify excellence in their craft. Nominees are selected for their technical expertise, leadership, commitment to safety, and passion for the skilled trades.
Widely recognized across Feyen Zylstra as a true master of his craft, Joel's technical expertise, problem-solving instincts, and steady leadership have earned him a reputation, both within FZ and with customers, as a trusted and reliable source. Whether he is troubleshooting a complex machine issue, programming lighting controls, or guiding a customer through critical decisions, Joel approaches every situation with clarity, creativity, and precision. He is the person we call when a problem is difficult, time-sensitive, or out of the ordinary, and customers frequently request him by name because they trust his judgement and value his communication.
“As a leader, Joel sets the standard through his actions. He leads calmly, professionally, and with confidence, and that leadership is reflected in the organization, safety, and quality of the work being performed”, says Chris Anderson, Director of Facilities at DeVos Place and Van Andel Arena. “Joel VanDuyn represents the very best of the construction trades. His expertise, leadership, commitment to quality, and dedication to educating others make him highly deserving of recognition.”
The West Michigan CPOY award winner will be announced live at the Excellence in Construction Awards on September 17th at GLC Live at 20 Monroe. The other finalists are Todd Hanninen from Halyard, Jeramy Smith from Pleune Service Company, and Jordan Gilbert from Allied Electric.
